In NFT channels and deep-water beds the roots sit in water all day. Warm nutrient solution holds little oxygen, and that is exactly when root rot takes hold. Keeping the solution oxygen-rich protects roots and keeps growth even from the start of a channel to the end.

Where it is used- Commercial hydroponic lettuce in Belgium
- Vertical farms and greenhouse leafy greens
- Hydroponic strawberries in the Netherlands
- Suited to hydroponic farms supplying Indian cities
How it works herePythium and Phytophthora thrive in warm, low-oxygen water and attack roots.
Oxygen-rich water keeps roots healthy and less hospitable to these pathogens, while supporting nutrient uptake.
In long gutters, oxygen normally drops toward the end; nano bubbles keep levels steady so the last plants grow as well as the first.
What the research shows
Evidence from the field
Field / institute trialLettuce under root disease pressure
Proefstation, Belgium · 2024
- Lettuce grown in gutters inoculated with Phytophthora at about 25 °C
- Nanobubble water at 20 ppm oxygen gave 43 g (11%) heavier heads than the control
- Plants at the end of the gutter weighed the same as those at the inlet, and roots looked healthier

Delphy, Netherlands · 2020
- Oxygen nanobubble water cut Pythium counts by 74%
- Plants showed healthier root mass and fewer Phytophthora infections
Source: Fresh Fruit Portal report ↗ Using OxynityHow we set it up for hydroponics
- Connect the generator to the nutrient reservoir in a recirculating loop
- Keep dissolved oxygen in the nutrient solution well above 8 ppm
- The 1.5 HP model suits most small and mid-size hydroponic farms
- Combine with good reservoir cooling in hot months
Good to know: Hydroponic results come mainly from European greenhouse trials run with technology suppliers. A side-by-side test on one system is the best way to confirm the gain on your farm.
